My first introduction into the post-rock genre was a Slint LP my ex-stepmom included in a box of CDs... glorious, glorious "Spiderland". Then I slowly got into bands like Sigur Ros, Mum, Mogwai, GSY!BE and BOC.

Post-rock is def. one of my favorite genres, but I listen to everything, esp. electronica/electroclash-discopunk

I can't imagine how amazing it must have been having had your first experience with Slint. I mean, Spiderland has to be one of the greatest albums I've ever heard. That is one hell of an introduction.

hello. Spiderland by far was a major influence for a lot of kids and mucicans, but what is post-rock really. I'm in a band and I think it's post rock. We Call ourselves "Farewell to Hymns". Really moody, slower, semi-instrumental, spooky sometimes, psychedelic. If it's rock that has less testosterone and more imagingation than i think a lot fits into that category. I love a lot of stuff. but in the post-rock sense let's see........

June of '44, Toroise, From Monument to Masses-Dim Mak Records,Explosions in the Sky, almost anything on Southern Records, My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Silver Mt. Zion, M83- which you should check out if you already haven't

By the way if you would like to check this out.......

M83 work wonders. I forget where I saw it, but they so are an electronic answer to the type of shoegaze that My Bloody Valentine fostered. The "Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do" business I unfortunately can't meet with the same enthusiasm. It's alright, maybe even just shy of great, but it's nothing in comparison with what they've put out. It's major selling point is simply the fact that it's new material from Sigur Ros. Maybe that's a bit hard...I mean, it has it does have it's moments.

My 20 year-old son got me into Sigur Ros, Mogwai and GSY!BE while we were driving through Death Valley. The austere music was perfect for the scenery. I have since put a lot of this stuff on my iPod, and even bought some vinyl. GSY!BE is my favorite. That creepy preacher guy on "The Buildings They Are Sleeping" is some of the weirdest shit ever.

I got introduced to post rock from moving to a new city and meeting people who were interested in this type of music. So basically for the first little while I had a constant stream of "here, listen to this" and was on a music high for a few months. One group that stands out to me particularly is Set Fire to Flames. I don't know if he would stand out as post-rock in particular, but I also am in love with William Basinski, especially the disintegration loops.
I myself dabble in music, but it leans more to the "sound art" side than the "music" side.

Not gonna lie: "TNT" by Tortoise hooked me first (you see, I was unaware of its rep), and my ill-informed friend told me it was emo. It would be another good couple of years (after finally coming to know "Spiderland," "F# A# Infinity," and "Millions Now Living Will Never Die") before I really knew what I was dealing with.
